Annette Packer is a sweet, friendly young woman, and an enthusiastic but unskilled chess player. In the second episode Exchanges she becomes Beth Harmon's first opponent in a serious tournament at the 1963 Kentucky State Championship. She explains basic tournament rules to her, such as clock handling and the touch-move rule, before Beth beats her comprehensively. She also helps Beth out later in the tournament when she starts having her period.
A few years later, in the sixth episode Adjournment, Annette tries to reconnect with Beth, telling her how much she admires her and how she was inspired by her achievements to pursue her own ambition to become a doctor, but Beth is at the bottom of her downward spiral and while she entertains her, the conversation was awkward.
Annette is played by the English former child actress Eloise Webb.
