Annette Packer is a sweet, friendly young woman. In the second episode Exchanges she becomes Beth Harmon's first opponent in a serious tournament at the 1963 Kentucky State Championship. She explains basic tournament rules to her, such as clock handling and the touch-move rule, before Beth beats her comprehensively. She also helps Beth out later in the tournament when she starts having her period.
A few years later, in the sixth episode Adjournment, Annette tries to reconnect with her, telling her how much she admires her and how she was inspired by her achievements to enter university as a pre-med student, but Beth is at the bottom of her downward spiral and practically ignores her.
Annette is played by the English former child actress Eloise Webb.
